GENERAL ART ISSUES

"Artists Handbook Of Materials And Techniques," Mayer, Ralph A nearly indispensible resource for those involved in visual art, particularly essential for painters in oil, acrylic or watercolor. Since it was first published in 1940, it has remained continually in print through many editions and has sold more than a quarter of a million copies. A detailed index makes a wealth of information readily available. Charts and line drawings throughout.

"Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain," Edwards, Betty
I've given copies of this book as gifts to more people than I can count! It is a stupendous guidebook for anyone desiring to learn how to draw; it can help nearly anyone who is willing to follow the practice sessions. While you won't find anything in this book which hasn't been known for a long time, its presentation is superior to almost any other. My only complaint is that the science is a bit out-dated by now. Scientists are no longer convinced that the functions right and left hemispheres of the brain can be as easily defined and separated as is implied by this book.

"The Artist's Handbook," Smith, Ray -- Hardcover - 352 pages
Whenever I am approaching a medium which is new to me, or want to quickly expand my thoughts on how to handle a particular subject, this is the book I turn to! This is an extremely practical and interesting guide to almost everything related to visual arts. Over 1,000 illustrations!
